Stealth
1992 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin TurboPurchased July 3, 1999
Surrendered October 21, 2000
Approximate miles I drove it: 35,000THE sports car to have in the Rocky Mountain region! This car had everything I was looking for -- all-wheel drive for those overnight one-foot accumulations of snow, twin-turbocharged engine to overcome the terribly thin atmosphere at 5,500+ ft. above sea level, and above all else, it has a top speed of 155mph!
Maintenance nightmare. Although I owned this car for over a year, I was only able to drive it about eight or nine of these months. The car sat at my local Dodge dealership for a total of over six months -- most of this time it was waiting on transmission parts. The transmission was replaced three times while I owned the car due to the following: worn synchros, faulty parts, and improper installation. Each transmission replacement cost nearly $5,000...! Now we understand why I own a simple rear-drive layout automobile...
In the end, this car cost me an awful lot of money to maintain -- it also caused a lot of headaches and tormented days driving dealer loaner cars (anyone who owns a Mistubishi Mirage has my sympathy). Even so, though, I still consider this to be the most fun car I've owned. It is also the fastest car I've owned -- it holds a bit of an edge over the Cobra and Trans Am, especially at this altitude.
I look forward to owning a newer sister-car 3000GT VR4 in the future.
